Blogs and News Articles
The process of creating and editing blog entries and news articles has been simplified and streamlined in Site Avenger, particularly when using Superpowers.
Preparation
We recommend for long or verbose articles that they are first created with a text editor, then copyed and pasted "plain text" into the page. Styling afterwards, check out the
TinyMCE buttons on the top row. Several html tags are on the pulldown labeled "paragraph". Highlight the text you wish to style the select the tag (most of your text should be wrapped in a paragraph '<p>' tag,
TinyMCE usual works great, it is a pretty solid tool, been out there a long time. Note: When adding text from a word (.doc) be sure to click the little Word Icon on the second row and paste into the pop-up window.
The best way to add photos is to click on the "photos" tab although you may insert some images directly into the text. But novices should be careful with that as, little mistakes can cause confusing html effects for those whom are not familiar with html markup.
News articles are informational notices, reports, reviews, or announcements published on your site and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first). News articles and blogs are important elements of your site which contribute significantly to your website's "SEO" - Search Engine Optimization.
The term "Blogs" (Web logs) came into being in the information age but they are programatically identical to News Articles and will be referred to as News Articles.
Getting Started
To create a new blog entry or news article select "Add" or "New title-of-your-blog"
To Edit an existing article, access the Edit and Delete command with a mouse hover over the listed article.
The Superpowers NewsArticles Module
Superpowers speeds your access to the functions that you are most likely to use. Adding News Articles, Editing News Articles and Deleting News Articles.
The “Edit” and “Delete” links are dynamically displayed when your mouse hovers on them.
Editing Your News Article
Site Avenger is a tool that is configurable to your needs. News Articles and Blogs are also configurable tools, your News Article may be text only or include images, your blog may allow comments. News Articles menus may differ slightly depending upon your setup. Some basic tabbed options are covered here.
Adding News Articles (Text)
A News Articles will minimally have a Headline and it will have content (copy). The copy editor is a TinyMCE editor, it allows limited text and paragraph formating.
It also enables the user to embed images and html links to internal and external web pages. Note that embedding an image inside the copy is not the same as attaching an image to the news article.
An embedded image is of fixed size and resolution. An attached or associated image can have additional properties, most notably image thumbnail and zoom sizes.
Adding News Articles (Tagging)
News Articles and Blogs may have tags. Tags are useful internal and external keyword identfiers. They can be used for searching and categorizing News Articles and Products. They are can also be an essential element of a websites SEO, Saco Design invests considerable effort and skill into researching the Keywords used for tags. Select tags from the list or enter a single tag or enter multiple tags in a comma separated list.
Adding News Articles (Photos)
As noted above, an attached or associated image can have additional properties, most notably image thumbnail and zoom sizes. In superpowers, Adding/Uploading a image has been much simplified, one may browse for a new image to upload or if the image exists on the server it can be entered into the Image Source field. For an example, see "Edit News Articles (Photos)" below.
Adding News Articles (Advanced)
On this page one may enable or disable the News Article and enable to disable the TinyMCE editor. Importantly, one may select the template file for the article, if none is selected the default version for your site is used.
Editing News Articles (Text)
Editing a news article is identical to adding a news article with the exception that the data fields already contain data.
Editing News Articles (Comments)
If your site permits comments your site admin will wish to review and moderate the comments. Site avenger provides basic ability also.
Here you can VIEW, EDIT, DELETE, DISABLE, ENABLE a comment. Built in SPAM detectors will score the comment but allow the admin the final decision to keep or destroy the comment.
Editing News Articles (Tagging)
News Articles and Blogs may have tags. Tags are useful internal and external keyword identifiers. They can be used for searching and categorizing News Articles and Products. They can also be an essential element of a websites SEO. Select tags, enter a single tag, or enter multiple tags in a comma separated list.
Editing News Articles (Photos)
New and old users may see that there are some new image modification tools. Please note the icons in the lower left corner of the image. Image Edit allows the user to add a caption or title. Hide or disable the image, select a different image or change the sort order. The image can also be rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise and it's vertical and horizontal size can be cropped.
Users may upload more than one image. If the site is configured for image galleries, the first image will show in the location specified in the template and the remaining images will list in the gallery.
Be certain to select the correct template to display a gallery if this is desired. If your site does not support image galleries, please contact helpdesk@sacodesign.com for assistance.
Editing News Articles (Advanced)
The advanced tab allows users to disable the image or change its sort order. And perhaps most importantly one may select the template file for the article, if none is selected the default 'basic' version is used. Users may upload more than one image. If the site is configured for image galleries, the first image will show in the location specified in the template and the remaining images will list in the gallery. Be certain to select the correct template to display a gallery if this is desired. If your site does not support image galleries, please contact helpdesk@sacodesign.com for assistance.
Delete News Articles
Same of other typical instance. Please note that Saco Design suggests that News Articles are not deleted if it is not necessary.
